2011 Gibson Hummingbird Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Heritage Cherry Sunburst

The Gibson Hummingbird guitar has lured celebrity players with its sweet, velvet tone and distinctive appearance since its release in 1960. The Gibson Hummingbird was introduced as Gibson"s earliest square-shoulder dreadnought and has earned a well deserved reputation as an icon of acoustic instruments with it's warm, rich tones for all styles of playing. It was originally designed around the frequency range of the human voice for peerless vocal accompaniment. Jumpin' Jack Flash, Sister Morphine, Angie, and Dead Flowers were all recorded on a Gibson Hummingbird. Perfect for Folk or Rock, this guitar is the all time favorite for Bluegrass and Country as well. Winner of Acoustic Guitar Magazine's Player's Choice Award - NOTHING can touch this guitar for sound quality.

The Hummingbird has a very wide range of sound, from gutsy and loud, to sweet and soft. The 24-3/4" scale length, square shoulder dreadnought body design of the Hummingbird is complimented with a AAA-grade, solid Sitka Spruce top and solid mahogany back & sides giving the Hummingbird a perfectly balanced midrange tone, with warm, rich lows and crystal clear treble. Every acoustic guitar made by Gibson features hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing inside the body, a feature normally found only in limited run, hand-made guitars. By scalloping each brace by hand, the natural sound of the acoustic is focused more toward the center of the body, enhancing the instrument's sound projection. The Mahogany neck is joined to the body utilizing a dovetail neck joint, the oldest and best way to securely join the neck to the body of a guitar. It is also a complex and expensive neck joint to build but the result is a tight, locking connection that supports the neck at the proper neck-pitch angle, allowing the body and neck to become one solid piece of resonating wood, with no metal to impede vibration. This process is done entirely by hand, requiring patience and skill. The fretboard of Gibson's Hummingbird is constructed from the highest grade rosewood on earth, which is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled experts before it enters the Gibson factories. The split parallelogram inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl. The Gibson Hummingbird comes equipped with the popular L.R. Baggs Element Active Acoustic Pickup System which delivers a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. The Hummingbird's rosette is a double-ring rosette, with the main ring consisting of seven-ply binding and the second ring three-ply binding, adding understated elegance to the Hummingbird. The tortoise pickguard on the Hummingbird is custom-made and features the Hummingbird's traditional floral and bird design. Top it off with the traditional, Nitrocellulose Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish and you have a classic that has shined for 50 years!
