2010 Gibson Custom Historic 1959 ES-335 Dot Reissue

No matter how you play it...

It ROCKS!

It's been more than 50 years since the birth of one of the most celebrated guitars in history, the 1959 ES-335 Dot. Introduced in 1958, bringing hollowbody tradition and solidbody performance together for the first time, the ES-335 would eventually reach its most desirable form one year later in 1959. Players prefer the 1959 rounded neck profile, which is a little heftier than the models produced after mid-1962. 50 years after reaching this zenith in semi-acoustic guitar design, the 1959 ES-335 Dot is still a favorite among players worldwide.

The revolutionary design of the 335 offers guitarists the best of both a hollow body archtop and a solid body design with solid maple block down the center of the body that minimizes feedback and the hollow body wings gives good sustain and tone. Factor in the ES335's sleek body design, single bar stop tailpiece, Les Paul look-a-like Tune-O-Matic bridge and you have a tone that is both powerful and precise.

This Custom Shop Historic model is indistinguishable in every way from the 335s that rolled off the line in '59. The fretboard dots-rather than the later bars-distinctively mark this Custom Shop re-creation as a 1959 model. Perfect to the last detail, this world-class semi-hollowbody features: Laminated maple top, sides, and back Antique Natural Finish Solid maple center block One-piece mahogany neck with extended tenon 22-fret rosewood fingerboard Holly headstock veneer Classic semi-hollowbody design Dual '57 Classic humbuckers Lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece with ABR-1 bridge 1959 rounded neck profile Single-ply cream binding on top, back, fretboard, and headstock Vintage tulip tuners Pearloid dot inlays 24-3/4" scale 1-11/16" nut width

This guitar is a natural wonder with a thin nitrocellulose natural finish, just like the original 1959 model. It is porous in nature, and actually gets thinner over time. It does not "seal" wood but rather allows the wood to breathe and age properly. This thin finish is not just beautiful, it's functional allowing the wood to release energy. A thin nitro finish creates less interference with the natural vibration of the instrument, allowing for a purer tone. Sound is captured as stress between the flames of grain and travels as it resonates through the body adding an extra dimension of sound. Along with the "Sustain Sisters," Gibson's original design, 2 5/8" solid brass circular studs, implanted in the center block into which the Tune-O-Matic Bridge is set, brilliance and sustain are further enhanced. When a string is played, these Sustain Sisters convert the string variations to physical energy, thus activating the top to do it's thing. The exceptional tonal characteristics are also achieved by the mass and density of the solid Maple Center Block, which is warmed by 2 thin pieces of close grained spruce, above and below, forming the connecting line with the body, pioneered by Gibson in 1958. The solid center section along with the streamlined thinner hollowed chambers between the top and bottom, adds fullness and harmony that provide a spectacular sound. The double-cutaway design allows for greater fret access, along with a comfortable, fast, low action neck. This is the most versatile guitar on the planet! Classic semi-hollowbody design and dual '57 Gibson humbuckers combine to produce everything from full-bodied growls to singing sustain. The sound is awesome, warm and clean with the ability to go from clean warm tones through to smoking distortion.

This guitar is 100% MINT UNPLAYED AS NEW, just as it came from the Gibson Custom Historic Division, in Nashville Tennessee. It comes complete with the Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, Hang Tags and pure MAGIC!
